Cheryl Teaters and Jeane Palfrey have joined forces to create linked Web sites for the Charleroi Area School District and alumni. Palfrey, at her own expense, developed the Charleroi alumni Web site www.charleroipahsalumni.org. A Charleroi biology teacher, Teaters was assigned the task to design and run the district's Web site www.charleroisd.org. With both sites active, the women decided to offer a link between sites. "It seemed silly for me to do all the alumni information when Jeane's site had it," said Teaters. She shared information about Charleroi graduates and Palfrey posted it on the alumni site. Called the Official CSD Register 1913 to 2002, Palfrey's alumni site offers the following all-inclusive information: In 1913, there were seven graduates. In 2002, 122 graduated from Charleroi. The largest graduating classes were in 1965 and 1968 with 301 graduates each year. In 1970, 1971, 1972 there were 296, 294 and 295 respectively. Palfrey, a member of the Class of 1974, lists a total of 16,358 alumni who received a diploma from Charleroi. Teaters, who received a high school diploma from Derry High School, graduated from California University of Pennsylvania, in 2002. Married this past summer and living in Latrobe, Teaters said, "I applied at schools within an hour of where I live." She was hired at Charleroi to teach core biology and biotic principles, in grades 9-12. Teaters, assigned the job of designing the Web site, said, "I spend 15 to 20 hours a week with the site." Though some of the site is still under construction, Teaters explained by accessing district information school lunch menus, athletics, activities, calendars, staff directory and ties to the alumni are available. "Minutes from every board meeting will soon be here. People who couldn't make a school board meeting will be able to read what happened." There are pictures of the school buildings, athletic events, maps and listed are radio stations that carry cancellations and related information, at the Web site. In Teater's classroom, filled to the brim with biology related pictures, graphs and equipment, hangs this sign; "Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference." "There are a lot of people who have made a big difference, left their mark in this world. And they came from Charleroi," said Palfrey.
