Jones Company in Monessen, was honored with the Rose Award for Dimensions in Philanthropy at Monongahela Valley Hospital's Gala 17. Presented by the Mon-Vale Health Resources Fund Development Committee, the event was held at the Westin Convention Center and Hotel in Pittsburgh. Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc. is the parent company of Monongahela Valley Hospital, Inc. Dimensions In Performance awards recognize accomplishments and service to Monongahela Valley Hospital and the health system at large. This special honor was created in 1988 and symbolizes the multi-dimensional qualities and talents of special friends, benefactors and members of the hospital team who have distinguished themselves in the areas of philanthropy, board leadership, medicine and civic well-being. The Rose Award was created in honor of Mrs. Rose Sweeney Melenyzer, a longtime friend and benefactor of the health system, to recognize outstanding benefactors for their generosity and dedication to the enhancement of quality healthcare. "Mr. Jones truly represents the meaning of benevolence and commitment to the advancement and enhancement of quality health care," Sheila P. Hewie, M.D., chairman of the Fund Development Committee, said. "These qualities are symbolized by his generosity to the hospital and the community, not just in terms of monetary contributions but also by service. This recognition serves as a tribute to his support, which has helped foster the growth and devleopment of our health system and beyond." Jones, whose firm is one of the largest electrical contractors in the region, began his affiliation with the health system in 1963 and has been a major corporate sponsor of the annual Gala since its inception in 1988. In addition, he has displayed benevolence to other fund-raising efforts at Monongahela Valley Hospital, including expansion of the Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center and the Emergency Department. A native of Fallowfield Township and a 1957 graduate of Charleroi High School, Jones began working part-time as an electrician at age 13. In 1958, after working for a large electrical contractor, he founded his own company. He worked briefly as a journeyman electrician in Florida before returning to Pennsylvania and resuming his own company, which performed electrical work on the new warehouse and loading dock at Fox Grocery Company, the new Howard Johnson restaurant in Rostraver Township, and the new Foodland supermarket in Charleroi. It was in Florida that he met and married his first wife, Vi Lemmons Jones, who died in 1996. They were married 37 years. In 1963, Jones' company performed the electrical work on construction of the new x-ray wing at the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. In 1972, he contracted to do electrical work on the large addition to Memorial Hospital of Monongahela. Since that initial job 42 years ago, David W. Jones Company has been involved in virtually all projects with the health system, including construction of the new Monongahela Valley Hospital and ensuingly the Parking Garage, the Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center, the SameDay Surgery Center, the Education Conference Center and Multi-Purpose Office Building, and The Residence At Hilltop assisted living community. The firm is currently performing electrical work on expansion of the hospital's Emergency Department. Jones' firm also has performed electrical work on football stadium lighting systems, the Pennsylvania Turnpike's New Stanton interchange, municipal water and waste water treatment plants and pumping stations, schools, banks, churches and industrial sites. His assignments have taken place in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, where the company had electrical contracts on construction of the West Virginia University mass transit system, and other states. Jones is a member of Victory Methodist Church, Charleroi Lodge 615 F7AM, the National Electrical Contractors Association, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Goldwing Road Riders Association. Jones, the son of the late David A. and Merial Baker Jones, is the father of a son, David W. Jones Jr., who is corporate vice president and general manager of David W.
