Hall of Fame not new for Hall... By Rick Bruni Jr., The Valley Independent, March 13, 2004

Lee Hall is already synonymous with success in wrestling.

But for the fourth time today, the former Charleroi wrestling coach and athletic director will own another place in history.

A former All-American wrestler for Pitt in 1965, Hall will go home to be inducted into Southwestern Regional Wrestling Hall of Fame at the Fitzgerald Field House.

"It just means I'm old," Hall said with a heartly laugh. "It will be in the same place where I did a lot of the things I'm being honored for. This is really special to me because Ron Garrison will make the presentation, assisted by my grandson."

This will be his fourth Hall of Fame entry, joining two from his home area of Hughesville, Pa., where he was state wrestling champ in 1960. Hall, 61, also belongs to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington-Greene County chapter.

"That was the most elaborate ceremony because they had a reception and banquet the next night," Hall said. "It gives you a little bit of infamy, I guess."

From 1967 through 1984, Hall coached the Charleroi Cougar wrestling teams through many successful years, including two WPIAL semifinalists.

"Coach Hall realized, in order to compete, he needed to get these kids started younger so they could work up through the system," said Dave Grillo, who wrestled under Hall in the early '80's and now coaches in the organization. "Most of the people in the program now are products of what he's done. That's a legacy for him."

At 61, Hall is still using tough love to help kids. He works full time at Adelphoi Village, a shelter in Washington for troubled teens.

"We keep them there until they're sent back to foster care," Hall said. "I'm still the same guy. Come to think of it, I'm probably not as tough or mean."
